User-Driven mode

User-driven enrollment enables end users to complete device provisioning with minimal IT involvement. This method enables full end-user provisioning using self-service workflows.

Enrollment process

1. The device is unboxed and powered up by the end user.
2. User is prompted for internet access.
3. Device reboots to apply the Autopilot profile.
4. User signs in with their work or school account.
5. Device configuration and required apps are deployed.

Expected Outcomes

• Devices are assigned to users automatically.
• Personalized experience with user-scoped apps and settings.
• Company Portal enables access to self-service tools and assigned apps.
• Primary user assignment improves BitLocker key recovery and auditing.

Primary User Notes

Primary user assignment depends on the first user to sign in. For co-managed devices, check that ConfigMgr client policies do not conflict with this process.

Break/Fix cycle

Use Autopilot Reset to reassign devices without removing records from Intune, Autopilot, or Entra. This helps preserve hardware identity and lifecycle tracking.
