Autopilot Self-Deploying Mode
This document references key differences between User-Driven Enrollment.
Note: Autopilot Reset is not supported for Self-Deploying mode, and requires the record to be deleted from Intune (Not Autopilot) first.
Use case
Section titled “Use case”Self-Deploying mode is used for kiosks, digital signage, and shared-use machines where no user input is expected during setup. A user can be assigned post deployment
Do note, that devices without an assigned user lose some features, such as user self-service of BitLocker recovery keys and the company portal to install software. For devices belonging to single users, it is recommended to stick with user driven enrollment to ensure users are always assigned.
Workflow
Section titled “Workflow”- Device is enrolled into Autopilot and assigned a Self-Deploying profile.
- Device boots into OOBE
- User is prompt to connect to a network if required, and then the assigned profile is downloaded.
- Device proceeds through ESP with no user interaction.
- Device finishes setup and presents the login screen or assigned app view.
